As a former teacher, I love to share the story of my children's book, Andrew Conquers the Court, with students. My presentations vary by grade level, but they all share the message of perseverance, determination, and grit to overcome disappointments or setbacks.
*I am happy to customize presentations for your students' and/or curriculum needs. My goal is to ensure a positive and meaningful learning experience for your school's students!
As a thank-you, each school visit includes a copy of Andrew Conquers the Court donated to the school's library!

In-person Presentation Descriptions by Grade Level:
Grades K-1: I Love Books! (30 minutes)
Students get a peek at the book-writing process and read the book aloud. Sing-alongs and class discussions emphasize to students that their “grit” will help them reach their goals. Presentations conclude with a question-and-answer period. A slideshow will be used for the presentation.
Grades 2-3: I Can Make My Dreams Come True! (45 minutes)
This session focuses on the book writing process and the main character’s development throughout the story. After reading the story to students, a class discussion will highlight the main character’s journey of using perseverance, determination, and grit to overcome disappointment. Students then engage in an activity where they reflect on their own goals and how they can demonstrate grit to achieve them. The session concludes with a question-and-answer period. A slide show will be used for the presentation.
Grades 4-5: I Have “Grit”! (50 minutes)
The upper elementary session will also include an overview of the book-writing process. After listening to the story, the discussion will focus on how the main character shows grit to accomplish his goals and how grit and perseverance will also help them conquer their goals. Students will then participate in activities where they work together to create a plan that will help them create their own “story” to teach others about “having grit.” The session concludes with a question-and-answer period. A slide show will be used for the presentation.
Virtual Presentations:
- It is not always possible or practical for an author to travel to your school. Virtual presentations are also a possibility! They last 30-40 minutes and will be modified from the presentations described above.
- The school’s preferred remote learning platform (Google Meet, Zoom, etc.) can be used.
